Alaska USA FCU & Alaska USA Foundation Donate $65,000
On Thursday 24 February 2011 Mr.
Bill Eckhart & Mr. Erik Lind from Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, and Mr.
Dan McCue from Alaska USA Foundation stopped by the ASYMCA office to present
two checks totalling $65,000 to Mari Jo Imig, ASYMCA Executive Director, and
Jack Crocket, ASYMCA Board Member & Golf Committee Chair.
"Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and Alaska USA Foundation have been very
generous and committed partners of the Armed Services YMCA's programs and
services" said Mari Jo, "Once again they have come through for
service members and military families stationed in Alaska. Their support touches
the lives of many military members in Alaska."
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union donated $25,000 to sponsor the annual Golf
Tournaments in Anchorage and Fairbanks, which raise money to support ASYMCA
programs and services. The Alaska USA Foundation donated $40,000 to support
various programs and services provided through ASYMCA offices on Joint Base
Elmendorf Richardson and Fort Wainwright.
We would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Alaska USA Federal Credit
Union and the Alaska USA Foundation for helping us to Serve Those Who Serve America!
The Armed Services YMCA of Alaska does not generate revenue through membership
fees, and very few programs generate revenue. In order to support the 30+ free/low-cost
programs and services we provide to service members and their families
stationed in Alaska, we rely on the generous support of private and corporate
donors.

FRED
MEYER CUSTOMERS AND ASSOCIATES RAISE MORE THAN $30,000 FOR ASYMCA
Fred Meyer customers and
associates donated $30,374.15 to the Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska, a
support organization for military members and their families by dropping their
change in the coin boxes located at Fred Meyer checkstands. In a three-month
period, Fred Meyer customers in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington donated a
total of $268,670.54 in change to the local
chapters of military-support organizations.
From
May 23 through August 14, Fred Meyer collected coin donations for the Armed
Services of YMCA in stores in Alaska and for Operation Homefront in all stores
in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The coin boxes at Fred Meyer checkstands
combined with association donations raised more than $500,000 for nonprofits in
2009. In many cases, associate payroll donations to the Fund are combined with
coin box donations to make an even bigger impact on local non-profits.
Associates chose to combine their donations with coin box money going to the
Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska.
“Our Customers and associates far exceeded our goal of
raising $25,000 for the Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska,” said Melinda
Merrill, public affairs director for Fred Meyer Stores. “We are grateful for
their generosity and are honored to be able to make this donation to our troops
and their families on our customers’ behalf.”
Fred
Meyer has had coin boxes at its checkstands for more than 10 years, and the
money collected in those coin boxes are distributed through the company’s
corporate foundation, the Fred Meyer Fund. From August 15, 2010 through November
6, 2010 coin box money will benefit local cancer awareness and research
organizations in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Lithia Chevrolet
of Fairbanks and Armed Services YMCA of Alaska join forces for "Operation Snack Attack"
Lithia
Chevrolet of Fairbanks has become the title sponsor this year for the Armed
Services YMCA’s "Operation Snack Attack" program.
Operation
Snack Attack provides snacks, drinks, comfort, and a morale boost to the troops
just before they board flights for deployment and upon their return. The ASYMCA
of Alaska is the last organization troops see as they are waiting to deploy and
often the first they see when returning.
Lithia’s
generous donation of $10,000 ensures this great program will continue to
provide an important element of support for our troops as they serve our
country.
With
many thanks and much gratitude for their support, we are glad to have Lithia
Chevrolet of Fairbanks join our team.
THANK YOU HRHL LAW FIRM Employees of Anchorage's HRHL Law Firm have dedicated many hours to "can-structing" a tower of food in the likeness of a toasty-warm holiday fireplace scene, complete with a tree and many canned goods that spell out the company's initials. All of the food items will be generously gifted to the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska's food pantries, to be distributed to Alaska's military and their families. The tower will be taken down in January 2011. Thank-you HRHL! NOTE FROM OUR FOOD PANTRIES: Please remember we accept donations to our food pantries year-round. Often times, when the holiday season is over, our food supplies run low. However, our food pantries are used on a daily basis in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. If you can't give during the holiday season, please consider a donation at another time. Thank you!
