FRED
MEYER CUSTOMERS AND ASSOCIATES RAISE MORE THAN $30,000 FOR ASYMCA
12.2010 -- ANCHORAGE -- Fred Meyer customers and
associates donated $30,374.15 to the Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska, a
support organization for military members and their families by dropping their
change in the coin boxes located at Fred Meyer checkstands. In a three-month
period, Fred Meyer customers in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington donated a
total of $268,670.54 in change to the local
chapters of military-support organizations.
From
May 23 through August 14, Fred Meyer collected coin donations for the Armed
Services of YMCA in stores in Alaska and for Operation Homefront in all stores
in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The coin boxes at Fred Meyer checkstands
combined with association donations raised more than $500,000 for nonprofits in
2009. In many cases, associate payroll donations to the Fund are combined with
coin box donations to make an even bigger impact on local non-profits.
Associates chose to combine their donations with coin box money going to the
Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska.
“Our Customers and associates far exceeded our goal of
raising $25,000 for the Armed Services of YMCA in Alaska,” said Melinda
Merrill, public affairs director for Fred Meyer Stores. “We are grateful for
their generosity and are honored to be able to make this donation to our troops
and their families on our customers’ behalf.”
Fred
Meyer has had coin boxes at its checkstands for more than 10 years, and the
money collected in those coin boxes are distributed through the company’s
corporate foundation, the Fred Meyer Fund. From August 15, 2010 through November
6, 2010 coin box money will benefit local cancer awareness and research
organizations in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
