The Armed Services YMCA of Alaska has the contract to provide two
Military WIC (Women, Infant and Children) Clinics on Joint Base
Elmendorf Richardson.
WIC
is an income based nutritional education program for pregnant, postpartum,
breastfeeding woman, infants, and children to age 5. It provides monthly food
vouchers for nutritionally rich foods for use at local grocery stores to keep
women, infant, and children on track for optimum development during critical
times of growth.
We conduct health
assessments—dietary analysis, height/weight measurements, and hemoglobin (iron/anemia)
screenings, engage in nutrition information and counseling, and referrals to
appropriate services. We also have a lactation
consultant and can loan out electric breast pumps to those breastfeeding moms
in need.
You qualify for WIC
if you:
Are pregnant (counts as 2 people), recently gave
birth (postpartum) or are breastfeeding, and/or have an infant or child
under 5,
Have a nutritional need, and
Meet WIC income eligibility.
To determine income, count all household income, special duty pay, child
support received, PFDs, etc. Do NOT count BAH, COLA, FSH, and deployment/combat
pay. You will need to bring all proof of household income (LES,
paystubs, etc).
